This Japanese modern culture, Manga features Tugaru-Samisen!!

As you know, Tsugaru-Shamisen is a Japanese traditional music that Yoshida Brothers and Agatsuma play. They use a Japanese traditional musical instrument, Shamisen, a three-strings instrument played with a plectrum.

The Manga “Mashiro No Oto (Sound Of Snow White)” by Ragawa Marimo is about young Tugaru-Shamisen players, and introducing the Japanese traditional cultures through the story. Interestingly, the characters indicate that Yoshida Brothers and Agatsuma are popular in Japan.

Here is the promotion video of “Mashiro No Oto”. Agatsuma’s song was used in this video.

Moreover, this Manga “Mashiro No Oto” got the Excellence Award at the Japan Media Arts Festival 2012. The reason for award was this Manga shows the beauty of Tsugaru-Shamisen’s sounds through the soundless medium, Manga.
