3. The Missionary Song

During the 1930’s and 40’s there used to be many, many missionaries who would come to the reservations. Course they’ve always been coming to the reservations, but I’ll remember it like, during the 1930’s and 1940’s, they used to come to the reservations.

And they would sing songs on Saturday night, Sunday morning, they’d be around. We used to go listen to them because they always used to have food at the churches, so that was very popular places to be at, on Sunday morning. Not that we were going to the church services, but we were going there to have to some food.

But one of the songs I was listening to, I liked the melody and it was something that I liked, so it stuck with me. And I want to say that, Native People have, we have our own beliefs, our own spiritual beliefs. I don’t want to say anything about what those other kind of beliefs that the missionaries are bringing, but they had good food and so many of us went to go eat there and survive… “The Missionary Song.”
